The House
Agricultural cooperative of Bethon in the Sézannais in the south of the Côte des Blancs created in 1967 by Gilbert GRUET, it currently has 100 members. Gilbert GRUET was originally a harvester-manipulator and marketed his champagne under the brand G. GRUET & fils. He wanted to create a group of producers in order to have potential and thus meet demand. The cooperative began with 30 cooperative associates including 10 directors. Mr. Gilbert GRUET was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors. Since Mr. Gilbert GRUET already had the necessary infrastructure (press, vat room and cellar), he pressed and vinified for the cooperative. Mr. Jean-Yves ORCIN is the current president of the cooperative. We have 7 employees including Magali, Mylène and Lisa at the reception and administration, Romain and Christopher at the cellar, Delphine at the winemaking and Loïc at the vat room.
Our village is located in the southwest of the Marne, 15 km from the city of Sézanne. The soil is mainly limestone, which allows us to cultivate the different Champagne grape varieties, including one in particular: Chardonnay, which represents around 80% of our vineyard. Our terroir gives our Chardonnays an incomparable minerality and freshness. Pinot Noir is the second grape variety of our cooperative.
All our wines are produced with the greatest respect for the Champagne tradition (in collaboration with our oenologist Delphine), right up to the final stage where the bottle is adorned with its label. Indeed, all our grapes come from vineyards located near our cooperative, which allows us to produce a terroir champagne. All the grapes are pressed in our pressing center, renovated in 2021. We then vinify our juices in our vat room before drawing them and aging them in our cellar. Disgorging and bottling are also carried out in our cooperative. All the stages of the production of our Champagne are carried out in our cooperative.
